It’s no secret around here: We kind of dig V-Moda headphones for their sense of style. The company has been consistently pumping out quality and low-key headphone designs, something we cannot appreciate enough. We’ve taken a look at a few of our other favorite models in the company’s line-up, but now we feel its time to finally dive into the V-Moda Remix Remote. Yes, the in-ear headphones come with a built-in mic and remote for the iPod and iPhone, but that’s not all they’re sporting. No, instead they come loaded with killer design, a tight fit, and a brilliant (if somewhat biased) audio quality. Design and Comfort
As mentioned, we tend to dig just about every design that V-Moda pumps out. As such, we almost instantly fell head over heels in lust with the Remix Remote. The headphones sport a gold-lated ear cap with a barrel shape and a nice, thickly padded ear canal tip. This tip fit perfectly in our ears, forming one of the best seals we’ve ever had from an in-ear pair of headphones. However, we did have some concerns about the barrel shape, as we feel those with smaller ears might eventually experience some unwanted discomfort. Typically, this wasn’t a problem for us (we’ve got big ears) but even we had to own up to some pain after about two hours of use. Additionally, there’s a fair amount of clothing-to-wire noise here: A side effect of such a great seal. All in all, though, we loved the design about as much as we’ve loved any other, even though the construction seemed somehow less solid as we’re used to with V-Moda headphones.
Sound Quality and Performance
We’ll try to keep this as short as possible: The seal produced by these in-ears is fantastic, lending themselves to an already above-average listening experience. That being said, it was almost immediately apparent that these babies have a tremendous bias towards the low-end. The bass thundered and rumbled along pleasantly, but at the compromise of a nearly absent top-end. In fact, we hardly noticed the highs, as they felt shoved somewhere back into the mix. Mids fair well, but on the whole, we were looking for more superior audio quality.
Overall Value
And clocking in at around $75 street price on the market, V-Moda is simply not being competitive. These headphones are designed well, constructed evenly, and will generally make life a happier place. But if you’re looking for an even sound, a world-class build, and perhaps a few additional features, you may want to consider other brands and/or models.
