There’s two things we love in a set of headphones (at least we’re predictable, right?) and that’s a unique design and a quality sound performance. If the price is decent, too, we’re even more behind the set. With that in mind, we’d simply like to introduce the Sol Republic Tracks, an incredible set of headphones for the price ($100) which also comes stock with a unique sliding earcup and great audio quality. It’s not the greatest set we’ve ever laid eyes on, but for a lesser-sung company with a lot to offer, it’s rock-solid. Design and Comfort Rating:

As mentioned, one of the bigger selling points of the Tracks is their unique design: The on-ear headphone cups are not adjusted via headband brackets, but rather slide directly along the entire track. In fact, they’ll even slide right off if you go to far. That’s not to say, however, that the design is in any way cheap! In fact, we found the headphones quite sturdy and comfortable. Likewise, though the cups slide about, they staid in place with ease when we wanted them locked. We had our concerns about the on-ear cups, which we thought might wear down our ears after an extended listen. Thankfully, they’re quite plush and very comfortable. We weren’t much fans of the additional noise caused by the cable rubbing against our clothing, though. Otherwise, it’s a novel design with a great balance.
Sound Performance and Quality Rating:

For an hundred dollar set of headphones, we didn’t expect much out of the Tracks. That’s our mistake, though, as these babies really did outperform our expectations in every way imaginable. For starters, the clarity is particularly good, rendering even the fastest hip-hop with mind-blowing definition. This is largely in due thanks to the vicious high-end, which punched and pulled without being distorted. Likewise, the low-end held up surprisingly well during all of our tests, reproducing our music with ease. We did notice a bit of flab in some bass-heavier tunes, but on the whole, it’s a great performance from a cheap set of cans. Don’t expect much noise-isolation, however, as the on-ear design isn’t the greatest for it.

Overall Value Rating:

We’ll keep this brief: The Sol Republic Tracks come with a superb price tag of only a single bill. For that money, you’ll get one of the coolest designs we’ve seen since the Beats, incredible audio performance, and a decently comfortable fit. Not to mention the bragging rights of having found such an incredible bargain. All in all, we highly recommend the set, especially if you’re looking for a pair of on-ears in the price range. They’re sturdy, sound great, and come in at a full hundred dollars cheaper than most competitors: Sounds like a bargain to us!
