Koss Pro 3AA Titanium Headphones – Klingon Design, Starfleet Performance $65

Koss Pro 3AA Titanium Headphones – Klingon Design, Starfleet Performance

Overall, we tend to dig Koss headphones. We aren’t saying we’re the company’s biggest fans, but at the end of the day, we do appreciate a good set of headphones by the manufacturer. As such, we had fairly high expectations for their most recent set of over-ear cans, the Koss Pro 3AA Titaniums. But at the end of the day, what we found was a less-than spectacular design, a great diaphragm concept, and generally sub-par listening experiences. They aren’t the greatest headphones we’ve ever looked at, but then again, we’d be hard-pressed to recommend a better set at the price range: The Koss Pro 3AA Titaniums clock in at only about $65 on the market. For our full headphone review of these bargain-oriented cans, read on!

Design and Comfort

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Koss Pro3AA Titanium

Koss Pro3AA Titanium

As stated, the Koss Pro 3AA Titanium is an over-ear headphone design that comes stock with a fair amount of padding, as well as an amply cushioned headband. Overall, we found the design to be quite comfortable, even during periods of extended play. However, we were just underwhelmed by the presentation. In a post-Beats world, we really rail on manufacturer’s who have failed to keep up with the times, and in our eyes, Koss falls into that category. The bulky and riveted look of the Koss Pro 3AA Titaniums is totally unappealing (we know that’s subjective) but no matter how you slice it, it’s just not the chic appearance we’d expect from an industry competitor. That being said, the comfort factor is still an A+, meaning you’ll be able to wear them, but not rock them.

Sound Performance and Quality

Rating: ★★★½☆

However, as we very well know, looks ain’t no thing when sound quality is present. So how do the Koss Pro 3AA Titaniums headphones sound? To be honest, decent but not ideal. Initially, we were impressed by the luscious high-end and top clarity. However, we very quickly realized that the headphones were quite top-heavy, producing very minimized mids and lows. Overall, this tended to create a somewhat lackluster performance in almost every track we played. Hip-hop is particularly lacking, as the “boom” factor of the bass is absent entirely. Likewise, we found ourselves wishing for just a little more roundness in the tunes. This is a warmth factor, and as is, the Koss Pro 3AA Titaniums are cold as ice.

Overall Value

Rating: ★★★½☆

We can hardly knock the Koss Pro 3AA Titaniums headphones for being a value, though. The headphones clock in at only about $65 on the market, which makes them one of the cheaper sets we’ve reviewed in recent memory. However, you’re certainly getting what you pay for, removing a chic design, world-class audio performance, and anything remotely approaching a top-end quality. All in all, the headphones are cheap, which is perhaps their only saving grace.
