Design and Comfort Rating:

Lady Gaga's Heartbeats
If James Taylor is the king of subtle pop, Lady Gaga is, in our best estimate, the queen of the stellar opposite. Her style has set obnoxious and edgy as a trend, and the Heartbeats headphones are no different, delivering a design that’s simultaneously eye-catching and weirdly enigmatic. The main buds are shaped in a triangular way, and are studded with a brilliantly striped pattern. The headphones come in a number of colors to match your tastes, but no matter how you slice it, we had a heck of a time making them feel comfortable. The triangle design of the ear buds tended to bite into our ears, causing a great deal of discomfort. In addition, the headphones appear to be designed for exceptionally shallow ear canals, as they simply refused to sit properly in our heads.
The buds come with three tips to meet your needs, but sadly, none of them quite worked for us. There are a multitude of other options, including a felt tip, available on the Net, but we’d rather not have to invest further capital into the project just to create a comfortable experience. All in all, the Heartbeats are certainly flashy, though less-than-likely pleasant.
Sound Quality Rating:

Out of the box, we expected the Heartbeats headphones to come with a mammoth amount of shimmering high ends, as well as a warm middle with little to no bass. And boy were we ever wrong! Surprisingly, the Heartbeats come stack with more bass than one could ever hope to shake a stick at. No matter what track we put through the phones, they boomed and rattled along like subwoofers. The high end was somewhat lacking, but we did find the middle tones rather pleasant. All in all, if you’re looking for a particularly bass-oriented experience, you’ll be in luck. Otherwise, you might just find the Heartbeats a bit muddy on the lows, and sub-par elsewhere.

Overall Value Rating:

In recent months the Heartbeats have suffered a price drop from the previously steep single benjamin to about half that, appearing for about $50 in-store, or potentially even cheaper street. At that price, we can hardly knock the in-ear buds for their glamorous appeal. That being said, the audio isn’t the best we’ve ever heard. If you’re looking for much more than a fashion statement, you may just find yourself out of luck with these Lady Gaga specials.
