If you’re in the mood for a sneak peek at the bizarre, totally cool, and downright strange in the world of stereo headphones, you’re in the right place. Stick around today, and we might even make your mouth water—more explained in a minute!
Headphones Good Enough to Eat
We’ve heard of noise-cancellation, advanced diaphragm angling, and just about every other technological achievement ever added to a pair of cans. However, we have not—until now—ever seen a pair of headphones that does its best to emulate what’s going on in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Though, as Valentine’s Day is coming up, we suppose the Sound Like Chocolate headphones by Fu-Bi aren’t such a terrible idea. These over-ear headphones have been engineered to look exactly like a chocolate bar, all the way down to the decorative earcaps which come with pre-cut milky goodness. Likewise, the exactly hued tone of the chocolate-oriented headphones go a long way toward making them look like a Wonka bar. We’re even told they smell like chocolate. No matter how you feel about the sweet stuff, we have to tip our hats to any pair of headphones that’s willing to don a different odor just to make sales. Next, we’re hoping Beats puts out a Lady Gaga-scented line, just so we can say we smelled that.
Apple Concept Headphones
Remember when we said we could make your mouth water? Yeah, we’ll be doing that now. We’re also betting we can make your jaw drop and your mind reel, but we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, this concept design by developer Sang-hoon Lee is absolutely marvelous. The bloke has offered Apple a golden ticket to perfection with a barred set of headphones that perfectly mimics the minimalist mystique and ultra-professional look of most Apple products. The band concept makes for a tight fit, while the lack of any buttons or knobs increases the streamlined appeal. No buttons? you say with anxiety. Fret not, dear reader, as the developer has included an ingenious way to tweak the volume. To turn up the heat, simply tap the right earcap, To take things down a notch, tap the left. We can’t get over how cool the concept is, and if the good folks out at Cupertino don’t pick this design up for a release soon, we’re going to tear our hair out. After all, with so many celebrities jumping on the headphone band wagon, we feel it’s about time Apple did too.
When it comes to headphone design, we feel like we’ve seen just about everything. Sure, we’ve taken a look at all of the latest celebrity offerings, including the sparklingly gorgeous Diamond Tears from Monster and JY Park, as well as the luxurious Sync by 50 from SMS Audio. However, we still felt there were edges to be pushed, and with a lot of digging, we’ve dug up some truly incredible, bizarre, and occasionally awesome headphone designs that are either hitting the market, or are already on the shelves. And don’t worry: We’re fully prepared to walk you through the motions. So if you’ve been looking for the latest, greatest and most outrageous trends in headphone design, stick around. We’ll cover your bases and then some.
Molami’s Bright, Twine and Pleat
Stockholm-based manufacturer Molami has been hard at work pumping out some of the trendiest and downright breath-taking headphones we’ve ever seen. Sure, the up and coming Ferrari line looks promising, but we’re willing to bet they couldn’t even hold a candle to these in-ear buds with a luxurious twist. Each of these incredible buds comes with the highest craftsmanship, and can currently only be found in Antwerp, Belgium. However, if you’re willing to make a trip over (we’re guessing price isn’t an issue if you’re interested) then you too can own a pair of headphones that’s made from nappa leather, stingray—yes, stingray—silk and pure 18 karat gold plating. The cords are braided and textile-wrapped, too, coming in black or white to match that shiny hue your iPhone is stunting. All in all, it’s a gorgeous set of headphones, and though we don’t have any hopes of getting our hands on them anytime soon, we’re guessing they sound pretty decent, too. Then again, audio performance likely isn’t your chief concern with these puppies.
Noisezero O+ Eco
Worried your headphones might be killing more than their inordinate share of polar bears this quarter? If so, you can check your concerns at the door, thanks to the new Noisezero O+ Eco line from EOPS. These headphones are designed to leave little to no impact on the environment, a feat that’s accomplished through their nifty design. Each of the cans has been made from cornstarch bioplastics and reused aluminum. And though this is environmentally friendly on the front-end, it also makes the headphones completely recyclable. Additionally, though we haven’t had the chance to try them out ourselves, we’ve heard the rigid nature of the plastics used makes the bass boom like a bull elephant during female elephant heat. We’re also told the mids are more buttery than average, making us salivate at the gate to sink our mittens. But until we do, you’re welcome to grab a set yourself, as these bad boys are already out to market, and making less of a global impact with each and every step.
