Headphone Trends – Scratching, Shuffling and Styling in Today’s Market

Here at stereo headphones, we like to keep you up to date with everything interesting and engaging going on in the world of headphones design. Everyday brings a new concept and a new design, and we like being your window into that world. We also just like checking out some of the most bizarre, fashionable, and totally rad cans around. It might get us off, but with today’s offering, we have a feeling you’ll come away satisfied to. Today we’ve got an innovative djing concept and a gym-ready shuffler. So without further ado, let’s dive right into the meat and potatoes of the matter, starting with a look at new headphone trends.

Every now and then we’ve been known to moonlight as a dj. We aren’t saying we’re the greatest at it, and in fact, we’d say we’re very much far from it. Still, it’s a passion of ours, as are dj headphones. With all of that combined, we’re absolutely sold on this concept design by Victor Declety. At first blush, this model of cans looks to be just another flashy Beats model, though with some interesting earcaps. However, with further inspection, you’ll find those are actually bloody turntables on the ears. Yes, you heard us right. The right side allows the deejay to cue up tracks, while the left allows him to scritch and scratch his way through a mix. It’s an incredible concept, and considering the popularity of various djing softwares like Algoriddim’s Djay for iPad and iPhone, we feel this pair of cans would have a lot of market presence should it ever hit shelves. We aren’t getting our hopes up too much, but still—we’d buy these suckers in a heartbeat.

Shuffles Built In

Do you go to the gym that often? If so, we’re betting you have a dedicated iPod that’s designed to be your running mate and partner. We’d also be willing to bet it’s an iPod Shuffle—or maybe some outdated model no one has seen for about a decade. Either way, if you’re sporting one of the latest iPod Shuffles, you might be interested in a current trend rocking the headphone market: Integrated Shuffles in the earcaps.

This concept headphone design, titled the ODDIO1 displays the idea at its best, but in fact, we’ve already seen headphones hit the market with this functionality built in. Monster was the first to put a Shuffle in the earcap with their iFreePlay to less than pleasurable results. We liked the concept, and though the sound was subpar, we’re still hopeful another distributor will snag the idea and improve it. Either way, with watches that now support the Shuffle, we’re hopeful the market starts begging for cans like this, as its certainly a unique look at what’s possible with the technology. And at the least, it might actually give us a reason to fork over the one hundred bucks for a new Shuffle. Our old one is still in the sock drawer – somewhere.
