Bose QuietComfort 15: Old Design, Unbelievably New Experience

Bose QuietComfort 15: Old Design, Unbelievably New Experience

Unlike the QuietComfort 3s, which totally redesigned one of Bose’s most notable lineups, the QuietComfort 15 headphone series has opted to take a different approach, maintaining the same look and feel of the original QuietComfort 2 headphone series but with some significant improvements. No matter how you slice it, our headphone review found that this set of Bose headphones will still cost you about $300, but with an incredibly effective noise-cancelation technology built right into the cups, as well as a killer design that fits snugger than a bug under a rug, that’s a price we’re more than willing to pay. For our full thoughts on this killer redesign by venerated industry leader Bose, check below beyond the break!

Design and Comfort

Bose QuietComfort 15

As stated, the QuietComfort 15 is more or less the same exact headphone as the QuietComfort 2, which the 15 will be replacing in the Bose headphone lineup: Again, we repeat that this set of headphones has completely replaced the QuietComfort 2, which will no longer be produced. Both headphones feature the same, lushly padded headband with swiveling, over-the-ear cups, which can be fit into a provided carrying case for maximum portability. As with the QC2s, we greatly appreciated the immediate, unpowered noise-canceling potential of the lusciously thick ear pads. Even without any digital assistance, the headphones effectively knocked out any of the ambient noise. And best of all, they felt incredible on our outer ears! All in all, the QuietComfort 15s are an incredibly comfortable set of cans, and we couldn’t be happier with the snug fit and tight design.

Sound Quality and Performance

Rating: ★★★★½

In terms of performance noise-canceling, however, we did experience a slight problem: All noise-canceling headphones can produce this effect, but the QuietComfort 15s were particularly bad about putting pressure on our eardrums. This experience bothers some consumers more than others, but on the whole, we found it particularly more troubling than we typically do, leading us to think this is a slight flaw in the QuietComfort 15’s performance. That, however, is the end of our performance gripes. Noise-cancelation is almost ungodly good, killing all the ambient noise we could throw at it. Furthermore, the sound quality itself is spot-on, vastly enhancing the experience found with the QC2s. The sound is more lush, as well as more balanced across all ends. The bass is somewhat punchier than we expected, but not unpleasantly so. Furthermore, we found the clarity of the QuietComfort 15 to be simply off-the-charts. At the end of the day, it’s a first-rate listening experience, and one we can’t speak highly enough of.

Overall Value

Rating: ★★★½☆

Sadly, the QuietComfort 15 headphones will cost you a pretty penny, clocking in at around $300 street. That being said, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better bargain for an extremely portable pair of noise cancelling headphones, especially with such stellar performance. Still, this might be a value best kept with the industry professional, rather than the average user.
